Japanned leather handbag is not new for us and it always run into our eyes in old films or photos. But for some one the japanned leather handbag is not only classic but also nostalgic.      Seth Boyden

The inventor of japanned leather handbag is Seth Borden from America. In 1818 he produced a kind of paint making of linseed oil. He painted it on the surface of leather and created japanned leather. But as an engineer, Seth Boyden just wanted to use this material to prevent his works from water without thinking anything related to fashion

The weakness of japanned leather made of linseed oil is it is not easy to become dry. Until 1930s, people use plastic to replace linseed oil to make japanned leather and that was widely used since then. It is just this chance let the shinning japanned leather full of fashion values and caught people eyes

Traditionally we use japanned leather products in relatively normal conditions such as men’s swallow-tailed coat should pair up black japanned leather shoes. A classic japanned leather handbag with solemn color will never be too casual under any circumstances except dance party or banquet. And japanned leather is traditionally used in spring or summer, perhaps that is because this leather always gives us a cool sensation.

In some brands designers just use a thin level of this “paint” onto the leather to keep the soft sensation of leathers and some use more paint to show the elegant shape of the handbag.

Generally speaking, japanned leather is a traditional material which will never disappear on the fashion platform no matter it is popular or not. You will find japanned leather handbags in various new pattern handbags in spring and summer of 2009.
